Famous Quote:
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." –Julius Caesar

Auto X-Prize Entry Runs on Auto X-Prize Trash

From the folks who brought you the madcap alt-fuel "Escape From Berkeley" race to Vegas comes a Progressive Automotive X-Prize contender with a twist — a 1980 diesel Volkswagen Rabbit pickup converted to to run on discarded X-Prize promotional materials.

In an alt-fuel paraphrase of Marshall McLuhan, the fuel source is the contest. How meta.

Jess Hobbs of The Shipyard told Wired.com the gasification gurus there are "really serious" about the entry, though the X-Prize honchos have yet to offici… Continue

Ready for market now

The BBC reported on the French version of this technology.

This report from Australia goes into more depth and also covers an Australian version.

How many billions of dollars in research and development funds would the big auto makers claim they need to get this far?

Yet, the technology is here now, ready to exploit - and it is not being used.

What's the hang up?

Why are we still:

Cars can be run on air- right now!! (BBC News)

No news is good news > http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/456.html

Odds are you've never heard of this car.

Why not?

Why is a French company developing it with zero help from the high rolling US-UK dominated global financial system which until recently had money for every loony scheme imaginable?

Answer: The banking system and the oil industry are closely intertwined and they want to protect their investment in the gasoline infrastructure at all costs.

Fortunately, France doesn't have the… Continue

The choice between Wind and Mountaintop Removal =PLEASE SIGN=

In September, we wrote to ask for your help in protecting Coal River Mountain in West Virginia -- ground zero in the effort to end mountaintop removal coal mining.

The question at hand is whether Coal River Mountain will become a model for a sustainable energy future, through the construction of a clean energy wind farm -- or whether the state of West Virginia will follow the policies of the past and allow Massey Energy to destroy Coal River Mountain with a massive mountaintop removal coal min… Continue

Industry and EPA Collaborated to Hide the Truth about How Natural Gas Drilling Is Threatening Drinking Water

By Abrahm Lustgarten, ProPublica. Posted November 20, 2008.

One of the greatest threats to our water and our health may come from a process involved in natural gas drilling. But EPA is keeping mum.

In July, a hydrologist dropped a plastic sampling pipe 300 feet down a water well in rural Sublette County, Wyo., and pulled up a load of brown oily water with a foul smell. Tests showed i… Continue

Oil Prices Down… for Now! Are we having fun yet?

Oil Prices Down… for Now!

Along with the market decline, the price of oil has fallen. It’s down 50% within three months. Back when oil hit $147 per barrel in July, I said that the price “ought” to be in the range of $100-110, with the possibility of a drop into the $90s. That’s what the fundamentals told me back then.

Most of the decline in oil price from $147 down to about $100 was directly related to the strengthening of the dollar. So the oil price slide in July, August and the first part o… Continue

The Big Difference in Obama's and McCain's Plans for Our Energy Future

The Big Difference in Obama's and McCain's Plans for Our Energy Future

By David Morris, AlterNet. Posted October 23, 2008.

It's not so much about their goals as the tools they would use to reach those goals.

A few weeks ago I was at Iowa State University addressing 500 students and faculty at its engineering school. I was sharing a platform with former CIA Director Jim Woolsey. At one point, a student asked our views on the presidential candidates' energy programs.

I responded that the ess… Continue

Are Solar's Problems Solved? =New Discovery=

Are Solar's Problems Solved?

By Eoin O'Carroll, Christian Science Monitor.

MIT researches have come up with a discovery that may help to get over one of solar power's biggest drawbacks: storing energy.

A big drawback of solar power is that it doesn't work at night or on cloudy days. But researchers at MIT say they now have an inexpensive way to store solar energy when the sun isn't out.

Daniel Nocera, a chemistry professor at MIT, and Matthew Kanan, a postdoctoral fellow in Mr. Nocera's la… Continue

Federal Solar ITC Campaign
10/03/08 BIG UPDATE!

It is finally time to celebrate. Congress just passed a long-term extension of the solar investment tax credit. An 8-year extension of both the commercial solar tax credit and the residential solar tax credit (with removal of the monetary cap), passed the Senate (74-24) on Thursday and the House (263-171) this afternoon. The ITC, and other clean energy tax incentives, were rolled into the economic stabilization package. The President is set to sig… Continue

We don't need gasoline! We NEVER did!! =A MUST WATCH=

Gasoline is toxic waste - literally

We don't need gasoline,
we never needed it!

Facts: Scientific and historical facts about gasoline and alcohol.

1. The original automobiles ran on alcohol because when they were invented gasoline was not available.

2. Rockefeller spent $4 million (that we know of) to promote Prohibition, a ban on alcohol manufacturing in the US that started in 1919 just as the car industry was taking off.

3. When Prohibition was lifted in 1933, gasoline stations were ubiq… Continue

The "BAILOUT" and SUSTAINABLE ENERGY.

This country faces many serious problems in the financial market, in the stock market, in our economy. We must act, but we must act in a way that improves the situation. We can do better than the legislation now before Congress.

This bill does not effectively address the issue of what the taxpayers of our country will actually own after they invest hundreds of billions of dollars in toxic assets. This bill does not effectively address the issue of oversight because the oversight board members h… Continue

Drilling or Shilling for Oil? =ACTION NEEDED=

Drilling or Shilling for Oil?

The Senate is poised to consider legislation that gives away too much to big energy interests to produce dirty power at the expense of clean energy, which will get us off fossil fuels and help combat global warming.

House Democrats pushed weak legislation days ago that capitulated to Republican demands for more offshore drilling, and now the Senate is looking at legislation with similar rewards for the same old energy gang: coal and oil.

We need to reward clean energy, not polluters: =PLEASE SIGN=

In 2006, we won a big victory when California set a goal of cutting global warming pollution 25% by 2020. Now we're in the final throes as Gov. Schwarzenegger chooses how we will meet that goal.

From my perspective it could go two ways. One way would allow the state's biggest polluters to create windfall profits by selling pollution "credits" they get for free (which is what happened in Europe). The other way: make polluters pay for their pollution, and funnel that money into wind and solar pow… Continue

Drilling for oil and natural gas, and mining for coal is "NOT" a good choice!

Dear friends,

Drilling for oil and natural gas, and mining for coal has already taken a dramatic toll on our country's public lands, wildlife habitat and natural resources.

Now, Congress is considering a proposal to develop a new dangerous energy source--oil shale-- for TWO MILLION acres of America's public lands!

Oil shale extraction will yield impacts similiar to the syncrude oil sands mine in Alberta.

Please urge Congress to extend the moratorium on commercial oil shale development!

Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace have been calling for the ouster of EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson for months -- and that campaign is picking up major steam.

This week, four U.S. Senators joined our call. In addition to asking Administrator Johnson to resign, they called on the Department of Justice to examine potentially perjurious testimony given by Administrator Johnson to a Senate committee. This is exactly the kind of attention we need to encourage.

Stephen Johnson is simply a bagm… Continue

I'VE MENTIONED IT SEVERAL TIME ON MY PAGE THAT I BELIVE THAT WE SHOULD USE HYDROGEN CREATED BY ELECTROLYSIS AS A SUPLEMENTAL FUEL WHILE WE TRANSITION OVER FROM FOSSIL FUEL TO HYDROGEN. I BELIVE WITH COMPUTER CONTROLS AND FORMULATED METAL ALLOYS THESE ELECTROLYZERS CAN BEGAIN TO PRODUCE HYDROGEN IN SUFFICIENT ENOUGH QUANITIES TO NOT ONLY INCREASE GAS MILAGE IN ALL INTERNAL CUMBUSTION ENGINES BUT SOLVE GOLBAL WARMING BY ESSENTIALLY ELIMINATING GREEN HOUSE GASSES CONTRIBUTED BY INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES. THIS WOULD NEED TO BE A GLOBAL EFFORT AND I BELIVE WE NOW STAND AT THE CROSSROADS OF THE JUNCTION WHERE ACCEPTANCE OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS AND ENERGY IS IN A STATE OF WORLDWIDE
ACCEPTANCE AS OUR ANSWER TO OUR ENERGY NEEDS FOR THE FUTURE AND PEOPLE ARE RECOGNIZING THEY NEED TO CONSERVE AS WELL. WE ALL COLLECTIVELY REDUCED THE GAS PRICE BY CONSUMING LESS. SUPPLY AND DEMAND WORKED BUT IT WON'T WORK FOR US NEXT TIME WHEN THE TABLES ARE TURNED AND WE ABSOLUTELY NEED FOSSIL FUEL TO DO COMMERCE. WITH AN ELECTROLYZER ON EVERY VEHICLE REQUIRED BY LAW IT BE MUCH LIKE A CATALIC CONVERTER WAS WHEN THEY FIRST ANNOUNCED IT VERY DISCOURAGING BUT I REMEMBER THE SMOG FROM VEHICLE EMISSIONS TOO. TO KNOW WE HAVE A VIABLE SOLUTION AND HAVE NOT IMPLIMENTED IT IS DISCOURAGING. IN THE CASE OF ELECTROLYZER PATTENTS NO COUNTRY OR INDIVIDULE SHOULD HOLD KEY TECHNOLOGY PATTENTS TO THE TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN SAVE US FROM GLOBAL WARMING IT SHOULD BE AN OPEN SOURCE SOLUTION WHERE BY ALL THE WORLDS GREATEST MINDS COULD FURTHER IMPROVE THIS TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY AND GET US TO A POINT WHERE ARE FUEL IS CLEAN AND ABUNDANT NON POLLUTING AND AFFORDABLE FOR ALL THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES WE CAN NOT CONTINUE TO CONSUME ENERGY AT THE INCREASING RATE NECESSARY NOT POSSIBLE

I am not a big cannabis fan but I understand the uses of hemp was derailed because of its other uses. And how quickly we can modify corn and other food crops and can't do a thing with hemp. America has bragged leadership for so long that it now leads in holding back progress and innovation. But the actual problem is that gov and corporations can't handle average citizens managing their own resources and controlling their own destiny, the global idea is great wealth, power and influence, all subject to corruption.
